Dr. Harry H. West, PE
Consulting Chemical Engineer
Summary of Experience
Dr. Harry H. West has over thirty (30) years experience in providing
process automation and safety engineering services to the oil, gas,
chemical, and petrochemical industries. These engineering services have
included conceptual process automation analysis, economic and safety
risk assessments, design of safety protective systems, third party independent
project reviews, inspections, audits, accident investigations, training
programs, and safety management services.
Dr. West's industrial experience began with providing systems design
and site audits for liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied petroleum
gas (LPG) facilities. During the past thirty years, he has provided
consulting engineering services for petrochemical and chemical production,
storage, and transportation facilities, including refineries, chemical
process plants, petroleum production (onshore and offshore), above ground
storage and salt dome underground storage, pipelines, rail cars, tank
trucks, and marine tankers.
Investigation of major process accidents to determine the root cause
of the failures has been an important facet of Dr. West's experience.
He has participated in several 100 catastrophic process accident investigation
teams over the past decades, both domestically and internationally,
recognized as one of the few process control experts with forensic experience.
For the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Dr. West has participated
in several projects outlined below:
- Co-Author of the text, "Guidelines for Process Safety Operations
& Maintenance"
- Instructor for the Continuing Education course entitled, "Management
of Change," a two-day seminar offered several times per year
in conjunction with AIChE conferences. A similar course was developed
through the Texas A&M Mary Kay O’Connor Process Safety Center.
Additionally, Dr. West has prepared and taught process safety engineering
short courses on both an open enrollment basis and for individual corporations.
As a volunteer adjunct professor of chemical engineering at Texas A&M,
Dr. West has been involved in directing graduate students in process
safety studies.
